The MIKE Project - Management of Intangibles in the Knowledge-based Economy
The MIKE Project (Management of Intangibles in the Knowledge-based Economy) is a project funded by the European Commission through its Asia-Link Programme (EC Contract ASIE/2005/110997). This project has been designed specifically to create curricula for developing experts in the management of intangibles at the post-graduate level in the six European and Asian partner institution countries - Denmark, Spain, Italy, India, China and Vietnam. The project applicant is Copenhagen Business School (Denmark) and the other partners are Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli, (Italy), Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya (Spain), Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (India), National Institute for Science and Technology Policy and Strategy Studies (Vietnam) and Fudan University (China).
The management of intangibles, defined in this project as factors not normally listed in an organization's financial statements that help it to achieve its full potential, is becoming a very high priority for policy makers and business analysts as well as for company managers and their shareholders.
Through the design of curricula for a range of key target audiences in industry, government and universities in the partner countries the intent is to raise awareness of intangibles as critical value-drivers in today's globalized economy. There are five key objectives for this project:
|
|
| 1. |
To stimulate enhanced employment opportunities for trained beneficiaries, support better relations between academia and industry in Asia and Europe and to sustain better trade relations in the biotech/biomedical, ICT and service sectors among the Asian and European countries involved; |
| 2. |
To contribute to improved policy-making that in Asian and European countries needs to be better supported to determine the optimal directions in which to drive innovation, research and industrial policies; |
| 3. |
To promote social/economic cross-regional development that reinforces goals related to economic development and to human resources development; |
| 4. |
To encourage formation of an educational network among universities, companies and other actors from the biotech/biomedical, ICT and service communities in Asia and Europe focusing on the six partner countries; |
| 5. |
To be a Euro/Asian Model Case for the advancement of knowledge-based competitiveness and cooperation, supporting the general shift toward a more knowledge-based economy in Europe as well as in India, China and Vietnam. |
The target audiences in industry include company personnel, especially in knowledge-intensive firms operating in the ICT, biomedical/pharmaceutical and service sectors, and professional groups such as financial analysts and business consultants. In government the curriculum will have greatest relevance to policy advisors and personnel in public authorities and other organizations assessing and reporting on intangibles. In the case of universities the target audience for the curriculum being developed is post-graduate students of economics, management, ICT, natural sciences and engineering aspiring to become expert in the management of intangibles and knowledge resources.
