The mClusters network is part of the Sixth Framework Programme with the objective to encourage co-operation among leading and developing industrial clusters in Europe region within wireless information and communication technology to create the foundation for new projects, new firms, inward investment and commercialisation of existing resources that can create regional innovation, growth and development that can stir European growth in line with the ambitions set out by the European Union.

The mClusters project should help create synergies among business firms and intermediary institutions. Within such a regional context of the innovation environment, the project will attempt at effectively helping firms and others to utilise complementarities and exchange best practices, know-how and related knowledge. This approach to innovation should help enforce the clusters, upgrade their capabilities and stimulate further development of specialized competencies.

The project will help initiate regional and inter-regional projects that will involve regionally-anchored business firms and other stakeholders in the commercialisation and other use of the experiences gained. When regional clusters are connected, when regional hubs are coupled, comprehensive sets of competencies could be shared across great distances. Coupled hubs, each with its cluster of competencies, could drive innovation projects that cut across Europe.
