The mobile cluster in Malmö is located in the third
largest city in Sweden with just above 500.000 inhabitants including suburbs.
With the Øresund bridge the business region also includes the Copenhagen area.
Malmö’s strategy is to develop new meeting places and contact nodes for knowledge-based
companies, including the many ICT consultancy firms located in the city.
The penetration rate for mobile phones is 98% and costs for usage
are very low by European standards.
The Malmö Incubator (MINC) plays an important role in
the efforts to support the innovative climate. The MINC, opened as late as
2003, is a public body sponsored by the city of Malmö, focusing on ICT and
digital media, nanotechnology and environmental technology. One activity is to
develop the number of wireless hot spots in Malmö.

institution aiming to develop new meeting places for knowledge-based companies.
M-Town is a Malmö-based company that offers services based on the integration
of different sectors. Medeon Science Park, in the heart of Malmö, is another
platform for innovation in fields such health-care and medical technology that
could be used as a basis for developing user-driven mobile health applications.
